CRYSTAL
“When you’re sitting on the bathing platform and stretching out your legs, you and the boat together will be 100 metres long!”

The story of coquine![design] seems to be closely linked to the dyna rig: A long while ago, after seeing the Maltese Falcon at the Monaco Yacht Show, conversation with Ken Freivokh started a 10-year collaboration between Christian Leyk and Ken. During this time, Christian also had the pleasure to work on many concept designs. One of these turned out to become the world’s second dyna rig yacht, Oceanco’s Black Pearl. Therefore, it’s only natural that the Valencia-based designer occasionally draws up new concepts around this amazing rig.

‘Crystal’ features a very different styling approach which results in very varied and usable outdoor areas, but in essence you’d still find all the amenities you’d expect on this big sailing vessel. There’s space for 12 guests, including a full beam owner’s stateroom with folding balconies, a lovely beach club with gym, a garage for tenders and toys forward, a welcoming swimming pool aft, generous lounge spaces on main and upper deck, a well-equipped wine cellar, you name it!

The exterior trades those more traditional flowing arches and curves for something you might call ‘crystalline’, though the idea remains to follow nature by employing a very organic network to distribute the loads onto the framework. Furthermore, some emphasis was given to the interaction between inside and outside spaces, letting natural light in when you want to and giving you shadow when necessary.

As a sailing yacht she has the same performance and sustainability credentials as her bigger sister, including that fact that she should be able to cross the Atlantic Ocean without using any fuel under normal conditions. Another advantage of the dyna rig is obviously that it’s very easy and quick to use, allowing you to spend much more time under sails than on a conventional sailing yacht
For the engineering coquine![design] has been in contact with some parties who made the predecessor such an outstanding masterpiece.
