Design philosophy & key features
PASSEPARTOUT
In terms of specifications, I don’t have much yet. Passepartout is 68m long and could be build either completely aluminium or with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. That might take care of any ice classification. The vessel is fairly narrow to allow for a smooth and efficient journey under all weather conditions. That way the engines could be relatively small, and you won’t have to carry around huge amounts of fuel for longer travel. I’d say it should definitely be diesel electric with perhaps larger battery banks so you could cruise a reasonable distance in total silence...

I call it ‘Passepartout’ after the trusty companion of Phileas Fogg. I’m not quite sure how long it’ll take to circumnavigate the world aboard this vessel though… might depend on where you want to stop. 80 days does seem a bit rushed and there’s just so much to discover off the beaten track. The design is meant to be modern but not flashy. Depending on what colour the future owner might choose, Passepartout might even fly under the radar and not be immediately recognised as a luxury yacht!

The owner’s stateroom is on the main deck forward where it’s more comfortable and features a small kind of ‘garden’ forward of the bathroom with folding balconies. On the upper deck forward sits the VIP cabin while the wheelhouse on the top gives the captain vital all-around view. Plus, with the wide wing stations Passepartout will be easy to manoeuvre into the tighter spots. Having said that, I’m sure guests might come up for the views, too!

The other main feature are the folding shutters covering the side decks which give you extra protection while travelling and added shadow when opened.
Last but not least there’s a good size tender garage, a clever launching mechanism for the working tender over the bow and the heli-pad might come in handy, too, when you’re in full exploration mood.
